Various musical events take place during the 34th edition of Film Festival Gent, which runs from 11 to 20 October 2007. Film and music come together in spectacular live performances, culminating in the seventh edition of the World Soundtrack Awards. Film music will also be celebrated in the months following the festival, with a special concert on 30 November, the eve of the European Film Awards, in Berlin.

Film and music converge at four diverse concerts during the 2007 edition. After the premiere of their first film, Heima, the Icelandic band Sigur Rós will perform a stunning concert. The following day, Ghent hosts composer Gustavo Santaolalla and the Bajofondo Tango Club, who are renowned for their fusion of tango and dance. They will present their new album Mare Dulce at the Vooruit concert hall. The Flemish Radio Orchestra, conducted by Dirk Brossé, will perform music by film composer Alberto Iglesias from Pedro Almodóvar films such as Todo sobre mi madre (1999), Hable Con Ella (2002) and Volver (2006). Alongside the spectacular concerts, young and experienced musicians come together at a film music seminar. Annabelle Pangborn, Mychael Danna and Steve Munro, among others, will share their expertise.

During the 7th World Soundtrack Awards, Alexandre Desplat receives the 'Soundtrack Composer of the Year' award, while Clint Mansell wins 'Best Original Soundtrack' for his work on The Fountain (2006). Mikis Theodorakis receives a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. This edition focuses on the music of Canadian composer Mychael Danna (Little Miss Sunshine, Fracture, Capote, Exotica, Monsoon Wedding). The Flemish Radio Orchestra also performs music by ‘Discovery of the Year 2006’, Evanthia Reboutsika (My Father & My Son).

A month and a half later, another special concert takes place in Berlin. On the eve of the European Film Awards, Film Festival Gent will organise a grand European film music concert for the second time. The Flemish Radio Orchestra, conducted by Dirk Brossé, performs music by several European film composers.
