Various musical events will take place during the 30th edition of the Film Festival Gent between 10 and 18 October 2003. Film and music come together during overwhelming live performances, culminating in the Fotogramma concert where Nicola Piovani will conduct the Orchestra Aracoeli and perform a selection of pieces from his renowned oeuvre.

The presentation of the World Soundtrack Awards and the accompanying ceremony and concert are the annual highlight for film music lovers and professionals. The international film music world gathers again in Ghent for the 3rd edition.

This year's World Soundtrack Award Ceremony & Concert takes place on the 12th of October at the Bijloke in Ghent. As a central guest, Patrick Doyle's repertoire will be honoured on stage with music from Much Ado About Nothing, Sense & Sensibility and other soundtracks. The Belgian band Hooverphonic will meet him on the stage and perform orchestral arrangements of their music. Discovery of the Year 2002, Klaus Badelt, returns with a selection of pieces and Maurice Jarre will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

On the 10th of October, Daan Stuyven will take the stage at Vooruit to experiment in a clash between sound and the upcoming art of visual projections during the concert Vidiots killed the radiostar. The 10th and 11th of October, Raymond van het Groenewoud presents a selection of his works on soundtracks at the Handelsbeurs during a concert called Raymond met een doek en een camera. For this occasion, he collaborates with the Flemish Radio Orchestra and conducter Dirk Brossé.

Above all, the World Soundtrack Awards aim to connect film music professionals and give a platform to a discipline that is usually not placed in the spotlight. At our Film Music Seminar, the 13th of October in Kuipke, composers, directors and musicians sit down to answer the question: how do I write a moviescore? Oscarwinning composer Stephen Warbeck will moderate the seminar, Tuomas Kantelinen and Daan Stuyven join him in the talk.
