As a festive closing to the 35th edition of Film Fest Gent, the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert celebrates a new year of music written for the big and small screen. Seasoned composers Gabriel Yared and John Williams are honoured at two additional concerts.

At the Ceremony & Concert, Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Dirk Brossé, honours two outstanding composers: Angelo Badalamenti and Dario Marianelli. For his collaboration with David Lynch and other respected artists, Badalamenti receives the Lifetime Achievement Award. Last year's Discovery Award winners Daniel Tarrab and Andrés Goldstein return to the stage with new music.

Celebrating one of the great fathers of film music, we dedicate a symphonic concert to John Williams’ decades spanning oeuvre. His themes for Indiana Jones, Star Wars and ET are known amongst all. As a tribute to Anthony Minghella, Gabriel Yared performs his scores for The English Patient, Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr Ripley and Breaking and Entering. The day after the concert, Gabriel Yared gives a seminar on film music at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, where he will talk about the relationship between a director and composer.
