On 19 October 2002, the second edition of the World Soundtrack Awards 2002 closes the 29th Ghent Film Festival with a concert and ceremony focused on film music past and present.

The evening combines the awards with a two-part concert. The first part pays tribute to Georges Delerue, ten years after his death. His scores, known from films such as Jules et Jim and Le dernier métro, are conducted by Dirk Brossé and Jean-Claude Petit. The second part features George Fenton, who leads the National Orchestra of Belgium in a program of his romantic film music, including Dangerous Liaisons and You’ve Got Mail.

The festival expands beyond the main concert. Tagesbuch einer Verloren (1929) is screened with live music by Roberto Tricarri and performance by Hanna Schygulla. Feathers on Wings presents a new soundtrack for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920).

On 18 October, the New Art Trio presents its album JIZO in a free concert. The Flanders Film Music Seminar 2002 looks at film music after 75 years of sound in cinema, and examines current practice, from symphonic scoring to electronic methods, alongside challenges such as piracy and new media.
