WSA 2012

On 20 October 2012, the international film music scene gathers in Ghent for the 12th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, the prestigious film music prizes of Film Fest Gent. This edition of the WSA Concert is the perfect follow-up to Passion, the festival's closing film. The WSAcademy presents the Lifetime Achievement Award to Pino Donaggio, whose magnificent score for Brian De Palma’s Passion is be performed by Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Dirk Brossé. They also present music from The First Grader and The Rite by World Soundtrack Discovery of the Year 2011 Alex Heffes, who returns with his winning scores. The guest of honour of this 12th edition is no less than James Newton Howard, who won the WSA Film Composer of the Year Award in 2008 and has already earned eight Oscar nominations. During the concert, our national film production also gets a place in the spotlights with live music from the festival's opening film, The Broken Circle Breakdown by Felix van Groeningen.

Through a unique concert devoted to the music and songs from the James Bond films, Film Fest Gent celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Bond, James Bond. Maestro Dirk Brossé welcomes Rita Coolidge who performs All Time High and represents her other Bond colleagues. Flemish artists like Koen Wauters, Natalia and Lady Linn have the honor to perform legendary Bond songs together with the Brussels Philharmonic.

For this year’s Film Sound Seminar, Film Fest Gent and the School of Arts team up with the Dutch sound designer Michel Schöpping, whose work is at the heart of this year’s film festival programme. Both professionals and composers from the (inter)national film music industrie gather for this unique masterclass.
