Submissions for the 2026 World Soundtrack Awards will open on April 15th and close on June 15th. The crown of your oeuvre or a refreshing debut score? We welcome all eligible scores written for the big and small screen.

The World Soundtrack Awards welcome submissions in no less then six categories. In order to submit for Film Composer of the Year, Television Composer of the Year, Best Original Song and WSA Game Music Award, academy membership is required. You can find information on how to become a WSAcademy member here. Membership, however, is not required to submit for the Discovery of the Year and Belgian Film Composer of the Year Award. There is a registration fee, but eligible composers who are members of the WSAcademy are waived from this fee when submitting.

Submissions for the 2026 WSAwards will open on April 15th.

Award categories

  • Discovery of the Year: award presented to an emerging talent in film scoring for a given film score in the past year
    All eligible composers can submit, but WSAcademy members receive a fee waiver.
  • Film Composer of the Year: award presented for a body of work in film music in the past year
    All members of the WSAcademy are invited to submit.
  • Television Composer of the Year: award presented for a body of work in TV music in the past year
    All members of the WSAcademy are invited to submit.
  • Best Original Song: award presented for a song written for a film or TV series in the past year
    All members of the WSAcademy are invited to submit.
  • WSA Game Music Award - chosen by the public: award presented for the general public’s favourite original score for video game and/or other interactive media in the past year
    All members of the WSAcademy are invited to submit.
  • Belgian Film Composer of the Year: award presented for a body of work in film music in the past year by a Belgian composer
    All eligible composers can submit, but WSAcademy members receive a free waiver.
  • Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer: award presented to the winner of the WSA Film Music Composition Contest

Eligibility criteria

Information about the eligibility criteria for each World Soundtrack Awards category and the submission process is listed below. Please consult the 2026 WSA Rule Book before submitting your scores.

Discovery of the Year

Through the World Soundtrack Award category Discovery of the Year, the World Soundtrack Academy honours emerging talents in film scoring. Among past winners of the award are celebrated composers Michael Giacchino, Daniel Pemberton, Nicholas Britell, Tamar-kali, Michael Abels, Bryce Dessner, Nainita Desai, Eiko Ishibashi, Simon Franglen and Jerskin Fendrix. Traditionally, the Discovery of the Year honouree is invited to return to Film Fest Gent the following year to present the winning score at the World Soundtrack Awards Concert

  • What are the eligibility criteria?

    Consult the 2026 WSA Rule Book for all the eligibility criteria.

    Original score for a motion picture:

    • A feature-length fiction or documentary film (of at least 70 min):
      • that was part of the official selection at one of the film festivals accredited by FIAPF, Sundance, TIFF, CPH:DOX, IDFA, Visions du Réel or Tribeca Film Festival
      • or received its initial commercial theatrical release.
    • Screened in world premiere or initial theatrical release between 16 June 2025 and 15 June 2026.
    • With a minimum amount of 30 minutes of score in the film (exceptions may be allowed).

    Composed by a screen composer:

    • Who has scored maximum five feature-length fiction or documentary films with a commercial theatrical release in two countries or more, up to and including the motion picture in question for which the submitted score has been composed (short films, TV films and TV series are not counted);
    • Who has not previously won the Discovery of the Year WSAward;
    • Who was previously nominated a maximum of one time in this category.

    If more than one composer is credited for the film score, each composer should meet the eligibility criteria.

  • How to submit your score?
    • If you are a WSAcademy member: submit your score by filling in the submission form made available online on April 15 in the tab 'WSA Submissions for WSA Members'. Make sure you are logged in to your MyFFG account to access the form.
    • If you are not a WSAcademy member: submit your score by filling in the submission form made available online on April 15 in the tab 'WSA Submissions for non-WSA Members'. Make sure you are logged in to your professional MyFFG account to access the form.
    • An administrative submission fee of €35 will be required for processing and consulting costs. From 15 May onwards the fee will be €45. This fee is non-refundable. Eligible composers that are WSAcademy members do not have to pay the submission fee.
    • A composer can only submit one original score per year. In case there are multiple eligible scores during the qualifying period, you can choose which score to submit for consideration.
    • Only submitted scores will be taken into consideration for the Discovery of the Year Award.
    • Submissions must include links to the complete score and to the screener which must remain valid until 31 August. For more information, see the Rule Book 2026.
  • What is the 2026 timeline?
    • Start submissions: 15 April
    • Deadline early bird submissions: 15 May. An early bird rate applies to all submissions before 15 May. After this date, an administrative fee of €45 will be required.
    • Deadline submissions: 15 June. Registration and payment should be completed by 15 June. Scores submitted after the deadline will not be accepted and incomplete submissions will be disqualified.
    • Start voting: 1 July. Members of the WSAcademy Advisory Board can cast their vote starting 1 July, through their personal MyFFG account.

Film Composer of the Year

Only WSAcademy members can submit and vote in these categories, through their personal MyFFG account. All eligible submissions will appear on the respective longlists.

  • What are the eligibility criteria?

    Consult the 2026 WSA Rule Book for all the eligibility criteria.

    Original score(s) for a feature-length fiction or documentary film (of at least 70 min)

    • that was part of the official selection at one of the film festivals accredited by FIAPF, Sundance, TIFF, CPH:DOX, IDFA, Visions du Réel or Tribeca Film Festival;
    • or received its initial commercial theatrical release;
    • screened in world premiere or initial theatrical release between 16 June 2025 and 15 June 2026;
    • with a minimum amount of 30 minutes of score in the film (exceptions may be allowed).

    Only the principal composer(s) responsible for the conception and execution of the work as a whole shall be eligible for a WSAward.

  • What are the eligibility criteria?

    Original scores that are used in (a season of) a dramatic episodic television series or miniseries...

    • that had its world premiere on a public network, on pay television or on streaming TV services that commission original content (sitcoms and DVD premieres are excluded from consideration);
    • screened in world premiere or initial commercial release between 16 June 2025 - 15 June 2026;
    • with a minimum amount of 30 minutes of score in the series (exceptions may be allowed).

    Only the principal composer(s) responsible for the conception and execution of the work as a whole shall be eligible for a WSAward.

    Only original scores are eligible.

  • How to submit your score?

    • screened in world premiere or initial commercial release between 16 June 2025 - 15 June 2026.

    Only the principal composer(s) and songwriter(s) responsible for the conception and execution of the work as a whole shall be eligible for a WSAward.

    Only original songs are eligible.

WSA Game Music Award

Only WSAcademy members can submit and vote in these categories, through their personal MyFFG account. All eligible submissions will appear on the respective longlists.

  • What are the eligibility criteria?

    Consult the 2026 WSA Rule Book for all the eligibility criteria.

    Original score(s) for a video game:

    • that was released for purchase or download by the public between 16 June 2025 - 15 June 2026;
    • with a minimum amount of 30 minutes of score in the game (exceptions may be allowed).

    If a game is in “Early Access” or “Game Preview” it has not been officially released and therefore is not yet eligible for consideration.

    Only the principal composer(s) responsible for the conception and execution of the work as a whole shall be eligible for a WSAward.

    Only original scores are eligible.

Belgian Film Composer of the Year Powered by Sabam

The WSAward Belgian Film Composer of the Year Powered by Sabam honours a body of work written by a Belgian film composer in the past year. The winner is awarded a prize of €2.500 euro, sposored by Sabam.

  • What are the eligibility criteria?

    Consult the 2026 WSA Rule Book for all the eligibility criteria.

    Original score for a motion picture:

    • A feature-length fiction or documentary film (of at least 70 min):
      • that was part of the official selection at one of the film festivals accredited by FIAPF, Sundance, TIFF, CPH:DOX, IDFA, Visions du Réel, Tribeca Film Festival, or a Belgian film festival;
      • or received its initial commercial theatrical release.
    • Screened in world premiere or initial theatrical release between 16 June 2025 and 15 June 2026.
    • With a minimum amount of 30 minutes of score in the film (exceptions may be allowed).

    Composed by a screen composer:

    • Who has the Belgian nationality.

    If more than one composer is credited for the film score, each composer should meet the eligibility criteria.

Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer Powered by Vienna Synchron Stage

This award is presented in honour of young composers around the world who were willing to showcase their talent in the yearly Composition Contest. The three nominees of the contest will be invited to the WSA Film Music Days, where their compositions will be played in front of a live audience during the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony.

  • What are the eligibility criteria?

    Composers of any nationality and place of residence are eligible to participate in this contest. However, they must be of legal age and are born after 10 October 1989.

    • In other words, the participants must be over the age of 18, and under the age of 36 on the day of the performance, 10 October 2026.

    Each participant is allowed to submit only one application per year.

    • Finalists can only be nominated once. From the year of the nomination onwards, finalists and winners cannot participate again. If you did not place among the finalists, you are welcome to try again during the following editions.
    • In order to take part in the competition, the participant needs to register and pay a fee of €75. This fee is non-refundable.
    • Applications shall be accepted between 2 March 2026 and 15 May 2026. The registration and payment should be complete by 12 May at the latest.
    • The participant should write an original composition for the following (maximum) symphonic orchestration. Extra instruments are not allowed.

    Submission criteria (of which the details can be found in the rulebook):

    • The necessary documents:
      • a completed online submission form
      • a detailed CV and a short biography (not anonymous)
      • the conductor’s score as a PDF file (an anonymous version with registration number only). Details on the requirements for the score can be found in the rulebook.
    • Two video files (both in .MP4 of .MOV) containing a video track identical to the original excerpt:
      • One should contain a stereoscopic audio track (with the existing sound of the clip, and your original score).
      • One should be a click track.
    • Three .MP3 audio files (as WAV 48kHz 16-bit):
      • a mock-up of the submitted score
      • a mock-up of the submitted score and click track
      • only the click track


  • How to submit your score?
    • In order to take part in the competition, the participant needs to register and pay a fee of €75 for handling and consulting. This fee is non-refundable.
      • The registration and payment of €75 should be executed by 15 May 2026.
    • Upon receipt and approval of the registration form, the participant will receive an e-mail with a link with a digital version of the excerpt for which music needs to be composed.
      • A downloadable link to the excerpt will be included in the registration confirmation e-mail.
    • Registration for the contest is only possible via our website.


  • What is the 2026 timeline?
    • Start submissions: Submissions for the Composition Contest will start 2 March 2026. Participants can only register through the website.
    • Deadline submissions: Registration and payment should be completed by 15 May 2026. Scores submitted after the deadline will not be accepted and incomplete submissions will be disqualified.
    • Announcement: The three nominees will be publicly announced in the course of July.

WSA Public Choice Award

No submissions are accepted in this categorie. The longlist is compiled by the Composers Diversity Collective (CDC), the UK & European Guild of Music Supervisors (GMS), the Alliance for Women FIlm Composers (AWFC), and the International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA).

The voting starts on June 26th. Both the public and members of the WSAcademy can cast their vote through their personal MyFFG account.
