Discovery of the Year
Through the World Soundtrack Award category Discovery of the Year, the World Soundtrack Academy honours emerging talents in film scoring. Among past winners of the award are celebrated composers Craig Armstrong, Michael Giacchino, Daniel Pemberton, Nicholas Britell, Tamar-kali, Michael Abels, Bryce Dessner and Nainita Desai. Traditionally, the Discovery of the Year honouree is invited to return to Film Fest Ghent the following year to present the winning score at the World Soundtrack Awards Concert.
- Submissions for the WSA Discovery of the Year Award 2022 are now closed.
- Submissions for the WSA 2023 will open 17 April 2023.
- 2023 eligibility period: Scores are eligible if the respective feature-length film/documentary or television series had its world premiere between 16 June 2022 and 15 June 2023.
Film Composer of the Year / Television Composer of the Year / Best Original Song
All members of the World Soundtrack Academy are invited to submit composers and songs for consideration in the categories Film Composer of the Year, Television Composer of the Year and Best Original Song.
Scores and songs are eligible if the respective feature-length film/documentary or television series had its world premiere between 16 June (of the previous year) and 15 June (of the current year). You can read through all eligibility criteria in the WSA Rule Book 2023.
Submissions for the WSAwards longlists are open until 15 June, and are free of charge, but membership of the WSAcademy is required.
WSA members can go to the WSA Submission tab in their MyFFG account to enter their submissions.
- Submissions are open from 17 April onwards for the Film Composer of the Year longlist.
- Submissions are open from 17 April onwards for the Television Composer of the Year longlist.
- Submissions are open from 17 April onwards for the Best Original Song longlist.
