WSA 2010
On 23 October 2010, the international film music community gathers in Ghent to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the World Soundtrack Awards. This milestone event features a special tribute: the World Soundtrack Academy will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to legendary composer John Barry during the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert. Besides his grounbreaking music, performed by Brussels Philharmonic and directed by Dirk Brossé, the evening will also include music from The Reader by Nico Muhly, Discovery of the Year 2009, who returns to showcase his acclaimed work. In addition, the concert will revisit memorable scores by film music icons such as Maurice Jarre and Elmer Bernstein.
To further honor John Barry’s extraordinary legacy, the WSA presents John Barry in Concert. An evening filled with some of his most captivating scores. The audience can enjoy music from Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa, and more, performed on 21 October at Kuipke Ghent by the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Nicholas Dodd.
As part of the festivities, the Film Music Seminar will take place on 20 October at KASK Ghent. The seminar opens with composer Stephen Warbeck, who will share his creative process using film excerpts. The central theme of the discussion explores the role of music in shaping a film's narrative structure.
