International Master in Composition for Screen: second student workshop

As a professional partner of the ICSS project (International Creative Soundtrack Studies), Film Fest Gent collaborates in the development of a joint programme in music composition for audiovisual media entitled "InMICS", International Master in Composition for Screen. This partnership is composed of four Higher Education institutions known for their expertise in music composition for audiovisual media and four professional partners specialized in the film music industry and showing a great interest in music creation.
Pilot projects InMICS presented at the Filmfestival of Aubagne

The results of the InMics pilot projects were presented last month at the Filmfestival of Aubagne (FR). The four training institutes involved (CNSMD de Lyon, KASK & Conservatorium/School of Arts Ghent, Conservatorio di Musica G.B. Martini Bologna and the Faculté de Musique Université de Montréal) and three other professional partners (Permission Inc. Montréal, Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and the Festival International du Film d’Aubagne) also got together to finalise the two-year ‘International Master in Composition for Screen’ which will start in September 2018.
World Soundtrack Awards Gala & Concert

This year the World Soundtrack Awards Gala & Concert, held on Wednesday October 18th and the Symphonic Jazz Concert, held on Thursday October 19th, both powered by Film Fest Gent, will focus on the incredible influence of jazz music on the art of film scoring from the past and the present.
Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé will perform compelling classical and contemporary jazz scores, accompanied by film clips on the big screen.

Every year, the Advisory Board of the World Soundtrack Academy chooses a ‘Discovery of the Year’ to celebrate emerging film composing talent. Famous composers as Klaus Badelt, Antonio Pinto, Craig Armstrong, Michael Giacchino, Gustavo Santaolalla, Nico Muhly, Abel Korzeniowski, Alex Heffes, Dan Romer, Daniel Pemberton and last year’s Joe Kraemer were discovered by the WSA Advisory Board.
16th Composition Contest for Young International Film Music Composers

Young international film music talent will have the chance to win the highly sought after SABAM Award for the Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer. This award was created by the World Soundtrack Academy and is worth € 2.500. The compositions of the three finalists will be performed by Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, during the 17th World Soundtrack Awards Gala.

From the 10th until the 20th of October Ghent will be taken over by Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Awards. Vooruit Arts Centre will become the place to enjoy an interesting cross-pollination of image and music from the 11th until the 21th (yes, we added an extra day for our famous afterparty!) – thanks to the collaboration between Film Fest Gent & Vooruit. The event will kickoff on the 11th of October with Belgian band STUFF. and their live adaptation of the music of film composer Howard Shore.
Live Track Cinema (23/09): Steiger

Live Track Cinema is a collaboration between Film Fest Gent, KASKcinema and Democrazy to give pop- and rock musicians the opportunity to expand their creative horizons by composing music for existing movies. On the 23th of September, the music of Steiger, the best of Belgian Jazz, will meet the extraordinary glass plane animations of Yuri Norstein.
