'Minimalism in Motion' welcomes Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch and Martin Phipps

Tickets for Minimalism in Motion: Glass, Nyman and Beyond are now available
Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch
Born in France, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch is a trained classical pianist and composer - a foundation that has led her into a career in film scoring. Though rooted in classical training, she didn't limit herself to traditional composition. Inspired by alternative artists like Radiohead and Björk, she began incorporating synths, bringing a modern edge to her minimalist sound. Having released three solo albums and an EP under FatCat Records' post-classical sublabel 130701, next to scoring high-profile British films, she is an established, versatile and sought-after film composer who forges close, collaborative relationships with filmmakers.
Levienaise-Farrouch garnered widespread recognition with several acclaimed scoring projects. Her work in film ranges from psychological horror (Censor, The Strays) to empowering coming-of-age tales (Rocks), romantic fantasy (Andrew Haigh's BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated All of Us Strangers), and poignant dramas (Living). More recent work includes the score for The Agency (Paramount+ series directed by Joe Wright), Fleur Fortuné's feature debut The Assessment, and Heldin, the new film by Petra Volpe which was presented at the 75th Berlinale.
A long-time admirer of Philip Glass, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch will take the stage with Brussels Philharmonic for performances of her scores for Living, The Forgotten Battle (De Slag om de Schelde), and All of Us Strangers.

"The World Soundtrack Awards and its Film Music Days are a cornerstone of our Film and TV composers community, and I'm truly honoured and excited to share music from my scores at this year's concert. Discovering the work of Philip Glass during my piano studies was a turning point in how I understood contemporary classical music. Playing his Metamorphosis 1-5 shifted my focus away from technical perfectionism and toward the emotional and meditative depth his music evokes. That experience continues to shape the way I approach my own compositions." "I'm especially thrilled that the concert will feature the world premiere of a new orchestral arrangement of Diner, a cue from All of Us Strangers."
Martin Phipps
Martin Phipps is a multiple World Soundtrack Award-nominated British composer who has written music for some of the most-renowned TV series in recent times, including Peaky Blinders, Black Mirror, BBC's War & Peace, Black Doves and Netflix's global phenomenon The Crown. Coming from a musical background (Phipps is Benjamin Britten's godson), Phipps studied drama at Manchester University, but later decided to concentrate his energies on writing music. It was Michael Nyman's score for The Draughtsman's Contract which taught him that music in film is a language on its own.
Since scoring his first TV drama, Eureka Street in 2002, Phipps has won 2 BAFTAs, 5 Ivor Novello Awards and received multiple Emmy nominations. Most recently, he wrote the score for Ridley Scott's epic Napoleon. Other film score credits include Woman in Gold (co-composed with Hans Zimmer), The Aftermath, and Ed Perkins' The Princess.
During the concert Minimalism in Motion, Brussels Philharmonic will perform pieces from Phipps' score for The Crown and The Princess.

“Michael Nyman opened my eyes to what film music could be. When I saw and heard The Draughtsman’s Contract as a 14-year-old I was stunned. It was rock and roll classical music, with an energy and repetitive simplicity that I didn’t know was possible. That score was the reason I devoted myself to the soundtrack world. And to this day, I try and capture something of the essence of his minimalism, and wherever possible, say more with less.”
