Umberto Smerilli

Umberto Smerilli is a film composer and sound designer based in Rome.
He studied music composition in the thriving underground experimental scene of Bologna in the early 2000’s, an environment full of cultural stimuli and crossroad for art and politics. Parallel to his music studies he also attends to the Film courses in DAMS at the University.
After achieving the International Master in Film Music at Italian National School of Cinema under Academy Award winner Luis Bacalov, he started an intense activity as soundtrack composer that brought his works at Venice Film Festival several times as well as other prestigious international competitions.
In 2017, he was invited to join the Artist Academy by Film Society of Lincoln Center NY, in the same year Italian Film Academy ranked Umberto as 6th best Italian film composer.
In 2018, carried out teaching activities at Italian National School of Cinema about soundtrack production .
