Film Fest Gent is honoured to announce the world premiere performance of the music for Disney’s ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’. John Powell’s powerful ‘Mine Mission Suite’ completes the concert programme of 2001 and Beyond: A Symphonic Odyssey". ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ hit theatres earlier this year and is the 4th instalment of Disney’s revived Star Wars saga.

For the original score for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, Powell took over the reins from world renowned composer John Williams, who scored the original Star Wars films. Only one other composer (apart from Powell) -Michael Giacchinofor ‘Rogue One’ - has been invited to score for the Star Wars franchise.

“I tried to keep in mind the DNA of how John Williams writes, which is flow and polyphony and melody, and of course an incredibly interesting rhythmic use of the orchestra,” John Powell said recently in an interview with Variety.

John Powell’s score for ’Solo: A Star Wars Story' is nominated for the World Soundtrack Public Choice Award 2018 and will compete against Nick Cave and Warren Ellis (‘Kings’), James Edward Barker (‘Lean on Pete’), Laurent Eyquem (‘Nostalgia’) and Atli Örvarsson (‘PLOEY-You Never Fly Alone’). The winner will be announced during the 18th World Soundtrack Awards.
