Film Music Seminar

16/10 – 9:00-16:30 – Theaterzaal Vooruit

This year’s central guest, Carter Burwell, is not only a frequent collaborator of the Coen Brothers, but also usually works with their sound designer Skip Lievsay. For his work on Martin McDonagh’s ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ Burwell received his first Academy Award nomination. Moderator dr. Martine Huvenne will ask him everything you ever wanted to know about composing for film.

During a lecture for School of Sound in 2001, Burwell revealed the importance of film music: ‘it carries an informative value and shows unspoken connections, but more importantly, it creates an emotional effect in the audience. Music opens up a feeling that dominates the whole atmosphere of the film.’

World Soundtrack Awards Industry Day

17/10 – 9:00-18:00 – Theaterzaal Vooruit

The World Soundtrack Awards Industry Day is an annual networking event where both young and established international film (music) professionals can learn, debate and network.

MORNING: masterclasses by national and international representatives from professional organisations.
AFTERNOON: panel discussions with film (music) professionals about some of the industry’s hottest topics.

Masterclass sound mixing & editing
