Over the past few years, Film Fest Ghent cooperated with two partner festivals, Festival International du Film d’Aubagne and Kraków Film Music Festival, and four higher arts education institutions (CNSMD de Lyon, KASK & Conservatorium Ghent, University of Montreal’s Faculty of Music and Conservatorio G. B. Martini Bologna) on the International Master in Composition for Screen. At the 47th edition of the festival, the first generation of InMICS composer talents will graduate.

This InMICS Master’s programme is dedicated to students wishing to work as composers for audiovisual media. Through a two-year trajectory of masterclasses, panel talks and workshops from the InMICS Composers Lab, advanced students are provided with the opportunity to hone their skills, share talents and develop their own personalities and projects under the guidance and supervision of international experts in the field.

At Film Fest Ghent, the InMICS students gather with lecturers, professionals, press and film music fans for a Composers Lab Panel Talk. They talk about their experiences while studying, their work and their future in the industry. During this discussion, they also delve into the relation between composing and the audiovisual arts.

Part of the students’ complete programme are the various industry masterclasses, seminars and panel talks organised at Film Fest Ghent (see here). In addition to this public schedule, at this edition of the Composers Lab the students will also have the opportunity to pitch their music privately in front of professionals in the industry.

Excited to see and hear what these young composers have in store for you? Great news! During the InMICS Composer Talents Showcase, which will take place on Saturday morning at Kinepolis Ghent, they will present their graduation scoring projects. An excellent opportunity to discover the Desplats, Santaolallas and Umebayashis of tomorrow!

In the meantime, a second group of students is ready to take over the baton in their first ever Composers Lab at Film Fest Ghent.

The InMICS Composers Lab is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. For more information about the InMICS programme, check out this website.
