Symphonic Jazz Concert

Edition 2017
An evening dedicated to hundred years of jazz and its influence on motion pictures: that's the Symphonic Jazz Concert.

The concert will guide you through one century of symphonic jazz scores from past and present, accompanied by film clips on the big screen. On this special occasion, two orchestras will be joining forces: Brussels Philharmonic and Brussels Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Dirk Brossé.

Together, they'll perform catchy jazz scores such as Henry Mancini's theme for The Pink Panther, The Man with the Golden Arm by Elmer Bernstein and Bullitt and The Cincinnati Kid by Lalo Schifrin.

The programme also includes music from Chinatown, A Streetcar Named Desire and a jazz adaptation by Joe Kraemer of the well-known Mission: Impossible theme among others. In addition, Brussels Jazz Orchestra is to bring its own interpretation of Michel Legrand’s theme for The Thomas Crown Affair while the audience will also be treated to more recent scores of such films as La La Land and The Black Dahlia.

Of course David Shire, who receives this year's Lifetime Achievement Award, can't go unnoticed! He plays the piano during the performance of his work for films such as The Taking of Pelham One Two Three and The Conversation.

Expect an exciting, audiovisual journey through hundred years of jazz and film. A must-attend event for all jazz and film lovers.
