5th WSA Ceremony & Concert

Edition 2005
On 15 October 2005, the international film music scene gathered in Ghent for the 15th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, the prestigious film music prizes of Film Fest Gent.

We happily welcome Argentinian composer Gustavo Santaolalla, WSA's Discovery of 2004, as Guest of Honour. Accompanied by the Flemish Radio Orchestra, he plays songs from his scores for Michael Mann’s The Insider and Ang Lee’s acclaimed Brokeback Mountain, among others.

As many as two composers are presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award this year. We celebrate the prolific careers and the continuous impact on film music of the musical duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Mike Stoller attends the Ceremony and accepts the award.

Belgian singer-songwriter and composer Raymond van het Groenewoud performs alongside British composer and Guest of Honour Rachel Portman. Van het Groenewoud plays “Twee Meisjes”, among others. The Flemish Radio Orchestra plays some of Portman’s most famous scores, the one for Douglas McGrath’s Emma, and Lasse Hallström’s Cider House Rules.
