Frederik Van de Moortel
Frederik Van de Moortel is a Belgian composer and sound designer whose work bridges bold musical storytelling and a deep understanding of sound for screen. Fascinated by music, electronics, and sonic experimentation from an early age, he built his first home studio as a child and went on to develop a career across film, television, theatre, and contemporary performance.
Since the early 2000s, he has collaborated with directors and artists in Belgium and abroad, shaping a distinctive voice that moves between orchestral writing, textural sound worlds, and emotionally driven narrative scoring. His work is marked by close creative partnerships and a strong sense of dramaturgy.
His screen credits include Inside (dir. Vasilis Katsoupis, starring Willem Dafoe), The Last Front, Köln 75, Animas, Le Grand Marin, The Pupil, and Comrade Kim Goes Flying, as well as television projects such as Juliet and The Team.
A standout example of his approach is Inside, where he crafted an unsettling and intimate sonic world through prepared piano, sculpted textures, and finely balanced musical gestures that mirror the psychological space of the film.
