Live Track Cinema (23/09): Steiger

Live Track Cinema is a collaboration between Film Fest Gent, KASKcinema and Democrazy to give pop- and rock musicians the opportunity to expand their creative horizons by composing music for existing movies. On the 23th of September, the music of Steiger, the best of Belgian Jazz, will meet the extraordinary glass plane animations of Yuri Norstein.
Ghent-based jazz trio Steiger incited a lot of praise with their self-released EP ‘Steiger’. Debut album ‘And Above All,’, released by El Negocito, soon followed. At Gent Jazz 2017 pianist Gilles Vandecaveye, percussionist Simon Raman and contrabassist Kobe Boon were presented with the prestigious Young Jazz Talent award.
For their turn at Live Track Cinema, they chose to provide a new soundtrack for the animated films of Yuri Norstein. This Russian director was named “the best animator of all time” by the Washington Post. The music of his two most famous animated short films, ‘Hedgehog in the Fog’ (1975) and ‘Tale of Tales’ (1979) will undergo some jazzy changes. Furthermore, a surprise third film will be added to the programme.
