Lifetime Achievement Award for Angelo Badalamenti

News 30 Sep 2008
On the 8th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, American composer Angelo Badalamenti will be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Marianne Faithfull. The British singer will hand over the prize during the closing night of the 35th Ghent Film Festival on 18 October. A large part of the evening will be dedicated to the music of Angelo Badalamenti, who in the past collaborated with Marianne Faithfull for the soundtrack of La Cité des Enfants Perdus.

For many years, Angelo Badalamenti has been the resident composer of the American director David Lynch ('a match made in heaven'), for who he wrote the music for Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Wild at Heart, Lost Highway, The Straight Story and Mulholland Drive. Just like Lynch's films, Badalamenti's music is wrapped in an oppressive, dreamy atmosphere. He also wrote the remarkable soundtracks for La Cité des Enfants Perdus by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Dominique Deruddere's Wait Until Spring Bandini and Jeunet's Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles, for which Badalamenti received the World Soundtrack Award for Composer of the Year in 2005. His entire career is now crowned with a World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the highest distinctions in the world of film music. Earlier, the award was given to Mikis Theodorakis, Peer Raben, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, Maurice Jarre, Sir George Martin and Elmer Bernstein. At the 8th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, together with the Brussels Philharmonic under the direction of Dirk Brossé, Angelo Badalamenti will be performing music from Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, La Cité des Enfants Perdus, Cousins and The Comfort of Strangers. For his concert in Ghent, Badalamenti will bring along two special guests: Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie & The Banshees and Beth Rowley. For the first time, they will sing the songs from the film The Edge of Love about the life of Dylan Thomas with amongst others Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller in the leading roles. Apart from the music of Angelo Badalamenti, the Brussels Philharmonic will also perform music by Oscar winner Dario Marianelli (Atonement), Daniel Tarrab & Andres Goldstein (XXY, Inheritance) and Belgian talent Tuur Florizoone (Aanrijding in Moscou) More info: www.worldsoundtrackacademy.com
