For the record: Angelo Badalamenti

News 22 Sep 2009
The Ghent Film Festival is continuing its film music series 'For the Record' with a compilation of the best film music by Angelo Badalamenti played by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé.
In 2008, Angelo Badalamenti was the central guest of the 8th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, the closing event of the Ghent Film Festival. The composer gave an unforgettable film music concert and managed to charm the press and the public with his warm personality. Moreover, he received the World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award from the hands of Marianne Faithfull. That's enough reason for the Ghent Film Festival to ask Badalamenti to tread in the footsteps of Craig Armstrong and Mychael Danna in the series of film music albums which the festival releases under the name of 'For the Record'. The Brussels Philharmonic went into the Flagey Studios and recorded twenty tracks -- enough for a double album - under the expert guidance of conductor Dirk Brossé. The Brussels Philharmonic went into the Flagey Studios and recorded twenty tracks -- enough for a double album - under the expert guidance of conductor Dirk Brossé. Angelo Badalamenti, for one, is delighted with the result: "The Brussels Philharmonic is a wonderful orchestra. Technically excellent and, at the same time, still able to convey emotion, nuance and depth. Straight away, Dirk Brossé understood how to let my musical voice speak through the orchestra. He treated my compositions with lots of love and care. The same goes for the sound technician, Manuel Mohino, who spent days adjusting the mix until it was perfect." The album contains music from films such as Blue Velvet, Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles, Cousins, La Cité des Enfants Perdu, The Comfort of Strangers, Twin Peaks, Wild at Heart, L'Adversaire, Evilenko and The Straight Story. In addition, the credits music from the American series Inside the Actors Studio can be found on the album, together with the 'Torch Theme' which Badalamenti wrote for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. The CD For the Record: Angelo Badalamenti is available at Fnac, online and via the festival tills for € 15. The proceeds of the sale go to Unicef.
