The Herculeslab, a Ghent based audiovisual lab for Ph.D. students at KASK and the Conservatorium, is organising three three-day sound workshops for young professionals in March - April 2016. Are you a sound engineer, film director or producer, sound actor, media artist or musician? Then these workshops should be right up your street.

Herculeslab offers these three workshops separately, but you can also apply for two or all three of the workshops.

1. A Push and a Shove Between the Ear and the Eye. Exploring the cinematographic qualities of sound by relocating the film language to a site specific sound installation - Alex Reynolds (Sound artist). March 11, 12, 13 (10am to 6pm)

2. Distortion is truth. Finding creative potential in the way a microphone colours the sound and other side effects that are usually avoided in the sound recording chain - Johan Vandermaelen (sound artist, sound engineer). March 18, 19, 20 (10am to 6pm)

3. Did you hear it - my voice? People say it’s beautiful. Using nothing more than the voice, focussing on its material qualities, we create the sound design for a dance film - Annabelle Pangborn (sound mixing, sound design). April 01, 02, 03 (10am to 6pm)

The Herculeslab is an audiovisual lab for Ph.D. students at KASK & Conservatorium. It originated from the research project 'Ailab' and was supported financially by the Hercules Fund. In addition to a lending service that includes cameras and microphones, there is also a media archive, a montage cell and a 5.1 mixing studio. The lab wants to stimulate practical research into making and experiencing sound in an audiovisual environment. Individual research projects can be worked on but residences and workshops are also organised. The lab is also accessible to KASK & Conservatory students and candidate-laureates at the HISK.
