The 14th World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert takes place on 25 October 2014 at Kuipke Ghent. Film Fest Gent proudly welcomes Cliff Martinez, American composer and former drummer of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, to the traditional film music concert during the second part of the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert.

In line with tradition, the 41st edition of Film Fest Gent will end with a festive event, the World Soundtrack Awards Concert, the annual film music event that has now reached its 14th edition and that gives the festival its international allure. This year’s guest of honour is Cliff Martinez, American film music composer and former drummer of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The WSA concert will mainly focus on his long-time collaboration with Steven Soderbergh, for whom he is the long-standing composer ('Sex, Lies and Videotape', 'Traffic', 'Kafka', 'Contagion', 'The Limey' and 'Solaris'). Needless to say, the programme also includes his cult score for 'Only God Forgives' (starring Ryan Gosling) by Nicolas Winding Refn. Cliff Martinez' Film Fest Gent cd is now available for only € 10! You can buy the cd here.

Don’t miss this event to see and hear the man who once played his drums for 72 hours straight, and who now continues to push the boundaries of film music with his elegant and atmospheric mix of meditative melodies, orchestral elements, electro sounds, guitar samples and techno club music.

The WSA also welcomes Dan Romer, who was crowned Discovery of 2013. The former frontman and acoustic guitar player of indie pop-rock band Fire Flies earned this title for his moving score for 'Beasts of the Southern Wild', the motion picture that earned director Benh Zeitlin the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Explorezone Youth Jury Award at Film Fest Gent.

Following the 41st Film Fest Gent’s focus on Cinéma français, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to French composer Francis Lai at the 14th World Soundtrack Awards. Clara Cleymans and Helmut Lotti will bring the world famous soundtrack for Lelouche, 'Un homme et une femme'. Watch the beautiful conversation between Francis Lai and Bent Van Looy here!

In addition to the oeuvre of Lai, Jef Neve’s captivating music for the prestigious Flemish drama series 'In Vlaamse Velden' will also be getting some well-deserved attention. Brussels Philharmonic will be performing the music from and with the composers, conducted by Dirk Brossé and accompanied by film fragments on screen. Watch the trailer here!

The Academy Board will select the five nominees for the Discovery of the Year 2014 by the end of August. In addition to the Awards presented by the Academy, the public could also vote for the Spotify Public Choice Award on the WSA website until 15 September. Voters could win an annual subscription for Spotify.

The 14th World Soundtrack Awards & Concert will take place on 25 October 2014 at Kuipke in Ghent. Tickets are available online from €30 on and €20 for students.
