Edition 2009
Following Film Fest Gent’s focus on Asian cinema, this year’s tribute concert ‘Shigeru Umebayashi in Concert’ offers a selection of some of Umebayashi’s most iconic scores.
A renowned Japanese composer, Shigeru Umebayashi has elevated the works of a plethora of accomplished Chinese, Hong Kong, and Japanese directors with his unique scores. Among his most iconic works are his scores for Yimou Zhang’s House of Flying Daggers (2004) and Curse of The Golden Flower (2006), Wong Kar-Wai’s In the Mood for Love (2000) and 2046 (2004), and Seijun Suzuki’s Yumeji (1991).
Through Umebayashi’s expertly crafted scores, the audience gets to submerge themselves into the musical world of Asian cinema. The music will be performed by Brussels Philharmonic and directed by maestro Dirk Brossé. They will be joined by soloist Ilse Eerens and the Flemish Radio Choir.
