Icelandic Innovation: Hildur Guðnadóttir as Guest of Honour

To celebrate the art of composing for screen, Film Fest Gent’s screen music prizes are home to an international audience for the 26th year in a row. For this year’s edition, we welcome the visionary composer Hildur Guðnadóttir as Guest of Honour. Through an innovative mix of genres and unique experiments, Guðnadóttir takes screen music outside of its traditional borders. The Icelandic composer has scored various soundtracks for films, television and games including Joker (2019), 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2016), TÁR (2022), the HBO series Chernobyl (2019) and the first-person shooter game Battlefield 2042 (2021).

Lifetime Achievement Award for Trevor Jones

This year, we honour the legendary composer Trevor Jones with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout his career, the South-African composer has created orchestral, rock and electronic scores for countless films and television projects, including The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Notting Hill (1999) and Mississippi Burning (1988). Besides his collaboration with David Bowie for Labyrinth (1986), Jones has worked with several other renowned artists like Sting and Sinéad O’Connor.

Music and awards

In addition to a selection of our guest’s music, which will be performed live by Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, the WSA Concert & Ceremony presents awards in the following categories: Film Composer of the Year, Television Composer of the Year, Best Original Song, Discovery of the Year, Best Original Composition by a Young Composer (powered by Vienna Synchron Stage), Public Choice Award, Game Music Award, and Belgian Film Composer of the Year (powered by Sabam).
