21st World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert

Edition 2021

Since establishing the World Soundtrack Academy, Film Fest Gent has presented the prestigious annual World Soundtrack Awards for film music. The winners are announced during the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony and Concert. At the concert, Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Maestro Dirk Brossé, music director of Film Fest Gent, performed a selection of music by the guests of honour and the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, accompanied by film clips on big screens.

After a year in which the World Soundtrack Awards celebrated its twentieth anniversary with a livestream awards ceremony, the Film Fest Gent team and the WSAcademy aimed to put screen composers in the spotlight at a festive physical event. For the first time ever, the WSA Ceremony & Concert took place in the impressive surroundings of the Opera of Ghent. The WSA intended to safely bring back together the film music community, from industry professionals to fans from all over the world. As of tradition, the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert was the closing event of Film Fest Gent.

Lifetime Achievement Eleni Karaindrou was presented and Guest of Honour Max Richter. Music of both guests was performed as well as last years' Discovery winner Bryce Dessner.
