World Soundtrack Awards 2021 - Daniel Pemberton

Film Fest Gent will present the 2022 World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award to Bruno Coulais, who will be one of the guests present at the World Soundtrack Awards, together with Mark Isham and Nainita Desai. Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Maestro Dirk Brossé, will perform live music by these three composers.

The versatile American film composer and jazz artist Mark Isham will also attend the World Soundtrack Awards as a guest of honour. Isham's outstanding musical voice can be heard in the memorable scores for the numerous films on which he collaborated, such as Judas and the Black Messiah by Shaka King, Crash by Paul Haggis and Nell by Michael Apted which received a Golden Globe nomination. Scores that will be played also include A River Runs Through It (Robert Redford) which received an Oscar and a Grammy nomination and The Black Dahlia (Brian De Palma), for which Isham was awarded 'Best Score' by the International Film Music Critics Association.

As is tradition, the music by the winner of last year's Discovery of the Year Award will also be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé. Nainita Desai was honoured in Ghent with her score for the documentary film The Reason I Jump. With nominations in three different categories (Film Composer of the Year, Discovery of the Year and Public Choice Award), she was one of the top favourites at last year’s award ceremony. Desai is known for her music for the Oscar-nominated film For Sama and Untamed Romania, among others. Recently, her 14 Peaks received an ASCAP Award nomination for 'Documentary Score of the Year'.

Mark Isham album

WSA Album

Each year, Film Fest Gent puts film music and composers in the spotlight with an album release. This time around, Film Fest Gent is proud to present the new album Mark Isham: Music for Film.

This is the first time that an entire album is devoted to Isham’s film and television scores. Spotlighting some of his very best work, it contains a unique selection from his massive oeuvre, including studio recordings of concert suites from 42, American Crime, The Black Dahlia, Eight Below, the Oscar-nominated score A River Runs through It and from his recent score The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. All music on this album is performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé. Trumpet solos on selected pieces are played by composer Mark Isham and the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s principal trumpet Thomas Hooten.
