SABAM for Culture has the purpose to promote, spread, develop, protect and defend the national repertoire in music, culture and art of SABAM, e.g. through releases in Belgium as well as abroad.
SABAM, as the national safeguard of royalties in Belgium, and the World Soundtrack Awards, as the national ambassador of film music in the world, have been working together for years to promote film music and tighten the bond between the Belgian and international film (music) industry.
The collaboration between SABAM for Culture and the WSA/FFG consists of three pillars:
- SABAM Award
- 3rd Character project
SABAM is the proud sponsor of the SABAM Award for the Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer, worth €2500 and gives young talent the chance to win renown as a film music composer by writing a symphonic score for a selected film or TV excerpt. The three finalists can see their score being performed live at the Gala & Concert by Brussels Philharmonic & Maestro Dirk Brossé. You can find more info about the Competition Contest here.
Another initiative of SABAM for Culture and the WSA is the 3rd Character Project or 3ième Personnage. Together with SACEM - the French counterpart of SABAM, they set up a matchmaking during the Industry Day between film music composers and duos of directors and producers working on a film project for which an original music score is yet to be composed and a specific composer is yet to be chosen. You can find more information about the 3rd Character project here.
A second matchmaking organised by SABAM and the WSA arranges meetings between members of SABAM (BE) and international professionals (agents, labels or publicists). This matchmaking is not open for subscription but internally organised.
