Each year, the World Soundtrack Academy organises a composition contest for young international film composers. Young talent has the chance to win renown as a film music composer by writing a symphonic score for a selected film or TV excerpt. The winner will be donated the SABAM Award for the Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer, worth €2.500.

American composer Gavin Brivik wins the SABAM Award for the most Original Composition by a Young International Composer during the 17th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards. Gavin Brivik wrote a new score for the Italian cult film 'il conformista' by Bernardo Bertolucci.

What does the SABAM Award stand for? 

Young international film music talent will have the chance to win the highly sought after SABAM Award Young International Composer. This award was created by the World Soundtrack Academy and is worth € 2.500. The compositions of the three finalists will be performed by Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, during the 17th World Soundtrack Awards Gala.

The jury chooses three finalists, who see their composition being executed during the World Soundtrack Awards ceremony, by the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé. The finalists are invited to attend the music projects of Film Fest Gent during which they can participate in different activities, such as the yearly film music seminar, the World Soundtrack Awards dinner, the film music industry day and the WSA press conference/composers meet & greet. During these days, the finalists have the chance to meet interesting professionals out of the international film music industry.
