Australian director Jessica Leski had surpassed the traditional groupie-age when she became infatuated with the boyband One Direction. No, not with the band itself, exactly; but with the obsessive behaviour they somehow brought to surface in their young fans. Her original idea to interview psychologists, neurologists and musicologists quickly made room for another plan. She chose to follow four fangirls of various ages. The eldest, Susan become obsessed with The Beatles in the '60s. The youngest is crazy for One Direction. 'I Used to Be Normal: A Boyband Fangirl Story' is an optimistic portrayal of the fangirl's life, but bears in mind the prejudices they face.
