World-renowned composer Carter Burwell, alongside sound designer Skip Lievsay, are joining our annual Film Music & Sound Seminar.
On Tuesday 16 October 2018, Film Fest Gent and School of Arts Gent (Belgium) organise a new edition of the Film Music Seminar that focuses on artistic collaboration between filmmaker, composer and sound designer.
This year, the central guest of the Film Music & Sound Seminar will be world-renowned composer Carter Burwell and one of the most talented contemporary sound designers worldwide: Skip Lievsay (‘Gravity’). Together, the duo are core contributors to the Coen Brothers movies. Burwell and Lievsay always closely work together and will share their vision about how they see the relationship between music and sound during the film production process.
During a lecture for School of Sound in 2001, Burwell revealed the importance of film music: ‘it carries an informative value and shows unspoken connections, but more importantly, it creates an emotional effect in the audience. Music opens up a feeling that dominates the whole atmosphere of the film. Composer Nicholas Britell ('Moonlight', 'If Beale Street Could Talk') has been added to the line-up. He's going to discuss the collaboration with directors Barry Jenkins and Natalie Portman, his musical adaptations of sounds and how he focuses on the inner self of actors.
The entire day will be curated and moderated by dr. Martine Huvenne (KASK & Conservatorium Ghent and coordinator of EPAS) and is English spoken seminar.
The seminar will take place at the Theaterzaal of Vooruit (Ghent, Belgium) from 9h00 - 16u30.
