Born in Moscow to a family of musicians.
1967-1977 – studied piano and composition at the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory of Music. Graduated with honors. 1984 was graduated from the Moscow Conservatory of Music with two diplomas – pianist and composer, both with honors. Member of the Russian Union of Composers from 1986. Moved to Berlin in 1990, where both her performances and compositions are much in demand.
As a pianist and composer Katia Tchemberdji regularly receives invitations and commissions from a variety of international music festivals, such as Heidelberger Frühling, Berliner Festwochen, Musik-Biennale Berlin, ARD – Competition, Tage der Neuen Musik Zürich, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival. She has written works commissioned by such renowned ensembles as The Hilliard Ensemble, Münchener Kamerorchester, Scharoun Ensemble, Komische Oper Berlin, Singakademie zu Berlin, etc. Her oevre include piano and chamber music, orchestra compostions, vocal works, operas and oratoria, compositions for children, all of which have been performed widely in Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia and Russia.
Katia Tchemberdji is the author of scores for many television productions and feature films. She has been recently invited to the festival Kempten Classix as he copmposer in residence.
As both pianist and composer she has recorded CDs and radio productions; many of her works have been published.
