Brussels Jazz Orchestra @ Symphonic Jazz in Film Concert

Brussels Jazz Orchestra joins Brussels Philharmonic at the Symphonic Jazz Concert

World Soundtrack Awards and Film Fest Gent are celebrating 100 years of jazz with a Symphonic Jazz in Film Concert: the best symphonic jazz soundtracks of the past century accompanied by film excerpts on the big screen. On this special occasion two orchestras will join forces: Brussels Jazz Orchestra joins Brussels Philharmonic, and together they will perform jazzy scores conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé on October 19th at the Ghent Capitole.

Artistic director of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra Frank Vaganée is looking forward to the collaboration: "It is definitely an artistic challenge for Brussels Jazz Orchestra to perform some of these beautiful musical pieces from a rich musical repertoire with Brussels Philharmonic. We are delighted about this partnership because it has proven very fruitful and succesful in the past, certainly if we think back to our collaboration for the Oscar winning film 'The Artist'. For many musicians in the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, the orchestral approach of film music in films and series in the 60s and 70s was a first introduction to big band music and this particular type of orchestra. Because of this, many chose to devote themselves to symphonic jazz."

The Symphonic Jazz in Film concert will be entirely dedicated to 100 years of jazz and its influence on motion pictures. Brussels Philharmonic and Brussels Jazz Orchestra will play catchy jazz scores by Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin or Elmer Bernstein, including 'The Pink Panther', 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?', 'Bullitt', 'The Man with the Golden Arm', 'Chinatown' en many more. More recent soundtracks like the Oscar winning 'La La Land' or Mark Ishams 'The Black Dahlia' will also have their place during the concert. Excerpts of those films will be depicted on big screens to create an overall experience.

The Symphonic Jazz in Film Concert takes place on the 19th of October 2017 in the Ghent Capitole. Tickets are available here
