All That Jazz!
Held on October 19th, the Symphonic Jazz Concert will celebrate the 100th birthday of jazz with the best symphonic jazz soundtracks of the past century accompanied by movie clips on the big screen. The concert will guide you through one century of jazz and cinema, and the successful conjunction of the two. On this special occasion two orchestras will join forces: Brussels Philharmonic & Brussels Jazz Orchestra will perform the scores conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé in the Capitole, Ghent.
A must for jazz and movie lovers!
"In the year that we celebrate the 100th birthday of jazz, how could we not focus on this quintessential American art form at the World Soundtrack Awards?" says artistic director Patrick Duynslaegher. "Especially since the rise of the Jazz Age coincided with the development and worldwide success of another quintessential American art form and entertainment: the movies. Over the years jazz and film have influenced and enriched each other. In our two concerts (World Soundtrack Awards Gala & Concert and Symphonic Jazz Concert) we bring the best of the great jazz scores from the past and the present. Two concerts you can’t afford to miss if you are a fan of film music, jazz or just plain great music!"
The Symphonic Jazz Concert will be entirely dedicated to 100 years of jazz and its influence on motion pictures. For the occasion, Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé will be accompanied by Brussels Jazz Orchestra. They will play catchy jazz scores by Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin or Elmer Bernstein including The Pink Panther, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Bullitt, The Man with the Golden Arm, Chinatown and many more. More recent soundtracks, like the Oscar winning score for La La Land or Mark Isham's The Black Dahlia, will also have their place during the concert. Fragments of those movies will be depicted on big screens to create an overall experience. Expect a charming and exiting night with an audiovisual guidance through a century of jazz and movies.
The award show with a ceremony and concert of contemporary jazz scores will be held during the World Soundtrack Awards Gala & Concert on 18 October 2017.
