WORLD SOUNDTRACK AWARDS

17 > 19 Oct 2017

A brief history of the festival since its starting days in 1974.

Ever since 1982 Film Fest Gent has experienced a growing focus on music in cinema with a special section dedicated to music films.

This led to the addition of:

  • screenings with live musical performances
  • hosting big film music concerts
  • annual Film Music & Sound Seminars
  • recordings of several CDs

Over the years, Film Fest Gent has become a meeting place for film music composers from all over the world. To consolidate this growing focus on music in cinema, the World Soundtrack Academy was created in 2001 which today maintains a voting membership of 385 professionals out of the industry.

A number of awards (this year eight) are distributed each year among about 30 - 40 nominees from all over the world. A part of them are even present at the ceremony to collect their award in case they win.

International guests from the film music industry present at the ceremony include:

  • John Williams
  • Hans Zimmer
  • Alexandre Desplat
  • Ryuichi Sakamoto
  • James Newton Howard
