Nominees World Soundtrack Awards 2008 announced

The World Soundtrack Academy releases the list of nominees for the three principal categories in the World Soundtrack Awards, the most pre-eminent international prizes for the recognition of film music: Film Composer of the Year, Best Original Score of the Year and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film. The names of the winners will be announced on Saturday, October 18 on the closing evening of the Ghent International Film Festival.

Ghent Film Festival: you won’t believe your ears!

With its focus on film music, the Ghent Film Festival (October 7-18) has carved out its own unique niche on the international circuit. True to form, the 35th edition has five film music concerts on the menu with music from John Williams, Gabriel Yared, Clint Mansell, Angelo Badalamenti, Dario Marianelli and many others. Film music concert with music of composer John Williams

For the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), the Brussels Philharmonic (Flemish Radio Orchestra) will be performing tunes by five-time Oscar winner John Williams. In a career that spans six decades, Williams has composed many of the most famous film scores in history, including Jaws, ET, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Superman, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List. The Brussels Philharmonic will be accompanied by three choirs: the Flemish Radio Choir, the Musa Horti and the Flemish Opera children’s choir.

Gabriel Yared to pay homage to Minghella

Gabriel Yared to pay homage to MinghellaFor the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), acclaimed composer Gabriel Yared will be honouring director Anthony Minghella, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Yared had been Minghella’s trusted composer for years, penning the scores for The English Patient, Cold Mountain and The Talented Mr Ripley. The concert is a co-production between the Ghent Film Festival and University College Ghent and will be held on 15 October at the Ghent Conservatory of Music.

Clint Mansell and Sonus Quartet in concertFor the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), Clint Mansell and Sonus Quartet will be performing atmospheric tunes from Darren Aronofsky films (Pi, Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain). Like Aronofsky in the film world, Mansell has garnered an immense cult following for his soundtrack work, known for its dark, hypnotic beauty. The concert will be held on 16 October in the theatre hall at the Vooruit.

That’s All Folk!: Kadril performs film musicOn Friday 17 October, the Ghent Film Festival will be presenting “That’s All Folk!”, a film music concert by folk rock sensation Kadril at the De Bijloke music centre in Ghent.
